Dental Questions – Our Most Frequently Asked

Dental Questions – Our Most Frequently Asked

People don’t usually think about the dentist every day. As long as one’s teeth are healthy and regular trips to the dentist are on the schedule, there may not be much to think about.

But when something comes up, the questions come racing forward – lots of them. And unless you’ve got a dentist on speed dial, you’ll need to head to a clinic to get the answers you need.

That’s exactly why we’ve created this article: to be a one-stop shop for the most common questions that pop up and need immediate answering.

Of course, you can call us anytime with your questions on (07) 3281 4122 – even put us on speed dial if you like!

Without further ado, we’ll get right into it. For your convenience, we’ve split up the questions into several sections so that you can zip through and get what you need quickly.

    General Dental Questions

How can Cosmetic Dentistry improve my smile?

Simply put, it is rare to find a cosmetic defect that dentistry can’t fix. Missing teeth, cracked or chipped teeth, gaps between teeth, stained teeth – all of these and more can be addressed with cosmetic dentistry.
Health Direct, a government information site, has a great directory of cosmetic dentistry info.

When should I take my child to the dentist for the first time?

Our professional recommendation is to bring your child in for their first exam by the time their first tooth erupts or no later than their first birthday. Though there might not be teeth yet, this exam is important to assess your child’s jaw, bite, and gums – and to give you tips on how to look after those little teeth.

How do I know if I have a cavity?

Cavities can present no symptoms, but these are some indicators: visible holes or pits in your teeth, staining on the tooth, bad breath or a bad taste in your mouth. Read more about cavity identification here, or come in for an appointment.

I need dental care, but am scared of dental treatment… can you help?

Many people get nervous or even terrified around the dentist. It’s perfectly normal. The good news is that many of them are surprised by how comfortable a trip to the dentist can be when staff understand this fear. We specialise in gentle care. Our advice is to search for a dentist that offers sensitivity to this common fear.

At Karalee Family Dental, we also offer a Penthrox inhaler to combat this fear. Penthrox is a substance similar to happy gas, only more effective and less expensive.

If you do come to us, simply inform the staff when you call for your appointment, and we can arrange for this treatment.

Where can I learn more about dental treatment?

There’s a lot to know, and this list won’t fit it all. For more information, visit us online or contact us to request a DVD. That’s right, we created a comprehensive DVD covering all topics you can think of relating to dental treatment.
